Academic Scholarship
The Association of Vitreo retina Specialists of Sri Lanka (AVRSSL) invites applications for the Annual Academic Scholarship / Travel Grant, supporting postgraduate trainees and consultants in ophthalmology to present original work (preferably in retina) at credible international conferences.

PURPOSE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP

The grant supports participation in an international academic conference to present original work conducted in Sri Lanka, including:

  • Research
  • Clinical Audit
  • Case Report

(Related to ophthalmology, preferably retina)


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Applicants must:

  • Be a current AVRSSL memberwith membership fees paid up to date
  • Present research, audit, or case report conducted in Sri Lanka
  • Present at a credible international academic conference

Local conferences and predatory conferences are not eligible.

Presentation Period:
1 January – 31 December of the application year


REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Conference Documentation

  • Acceptance letter from conference organizing committee
  • Submitted abstract or summary (max 400 words)
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Supervisor recommendation letter(if applicable)

Financial & Participation Evidence

  • Detailed expenses with original receipts
  • Evidence of participation (registration proof, badge, program listing, or presentation certificate)
  • Confirmation that no travel support was received from conference organizers

If the presentation has already taken place, submit evidence with the application. If the presentation has not yet taken place, evidence must be submitted after the conference to receive reimbursement.

GRANT VALUE

Two Grants Awarded Each Year

Rs. 200,000 per Recipient

If no eligible applicants apply in a given year, the grant allocation will be carried forward to the following year.

APPLICATION DEADLINES

First Round:                30 March
Second Round:           30 September

If there are no eligible applicants in the first round, applications will be considered in the second round.

SELECTION CRITERIA

If multiple eligible applicants apply, selection will be based on:

  • Credibility and reputation of the international conference
  • Academic quality and relevanceof the work presented
  • Priority given to applicants who are trainees and who have not received the grant previously

 

Final decision lies with the Travel Grant `Selection committee

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • This scholarship is a limited travel grantand may not cover all expenses
  • Recipients must acknowledge AVRSSLin their presentation
  • brief activity reportmust be submitted to AVRSSL within one month after the presentation
